The most well-known Korean Medicine techniques are acupuncture, moxibustion, and medicine. There is a saying that when treating a disease, the most effective treatment is acupuncture, followed by moxibustion and medicine. However, all these three treatments are equally important, regardless of the order. Korean Medicine is not just a simple treatment, but it combines "environment and love towards human and disease" altogether. Besides acupuncture, moxibustion, Chu Na therapy is also well known. In this article, Instant acupuncture and hand acupuncture and moxibustion, and Chu Na therapy will be concisely mentioned.
Instant acupuncture is a kind of acupuncture used in many KM hospitals for many diseases. It has a wide range of application, and is recognized by many practitioners as a recommendable treatment. It cures diseases very quickly and involves only 1~5 acupuncture insertions which make it very convenient and it alleviates the suffering compared to regular acupuncture. For that reason, Instant acupuncture is considered admirable in many cases. Therefore, many doctors consider Instant acupuncture as the easiest and the fastest way when treating a patient.
The efficacy of the Instant acupuncture can be applied for any illness, but it works surprisingly well when applied to the following disorders.
1) internal digestion-related illness, headache, backache
2) paralysis, circulation-related illness
3) spinal cord, hipbone-related illness
4) joint dislocation of a finger or knee
5) chronic arthritis, rheumatism arthritis
Instant acupuncture also minimizes the patient's pain with a high level of efficiency. Instant acupuncture is considered a new and efficient way of treating patients in Korea.
Moxibustion is another method of treatment, which is said to pertain to the Earth. Mugwort, the main material used for moxibustion, is said to be the most divine herb and therefore called a 'spiritual herb'. It has a marvelous efficacy for chronic illness caused from coldness of the body and the lack of Ki. Mugwort is originally a warm-natured herb, and when combined with a fire's warmth, it stimulates the body and provides positive strength. When putting on a moxibustion cone, the patient should keep the cone in place for under sensations of feeble heat until the patient starts to feel hot. When the patient does, he/she should pick it up, put it back in place after the pain subdues, and repeat doing it for several times until a reddish speck appears.
Chu Na therapy is a kind of treatment performed by just the doctor's hand. It does not involve acupuncture, or any other treatment. It is mostly applied when a patient suffers from any kind of joint or bone-related disorder for which it works well. Chu Na therapy comforts the autonomic nerve system and helps maintain self-resistance from other diseases. Chu Na therapy is mostly used for headaches, backaches, high blood pressure, diabetes, and many other stress-related diseases. Because it keeps our body's metabolism in good condition, it lets us both prevent and cure the disease.
Another unique Korean Medicine technique is Korean hand acupuncture. It is done on the fingers and 345 spots on one's hand. An acupuncture needle is slightly put on a secure spot of the hand, and since the stimulation is not deep, it minimizes the patient's pain. Its special feature is that patients hardly feel any pain and it does nott have major side effects. It not only works very well but is also easy to learn. Many people, even non-Korean-Medicine doctors, can use hand acupuncture for simple treatments. It is used for many diseases, but it is especially well known for recovery from operations and for prevention of loss of hair after radiation treatment. Korean hand acupuncture is expected to expand its range to further fields of medicine.
These are some of the main Korean medical techniques out of many other techniques. The specialty of the Korean techniques is that besides directly treating the disease, it increases the body's immunity as a whole. The importance of the Korean medical techniques lies on how Korean Medicine focuses on the body's overall metabolic system. It holds great account on the spontaneous flow of the body. For these uniqueness, Korean Medicine techniques is worth researching and developing for our time to come.
