Five Parties of Korean Medicine Hold a Meeting on SARS

The Association of Korean Oriental Medicine, Korean Oriental Medical Society, Oriental Diagnosis Department of National Medical Center, Oriental Medicine and Science Research Center and the Headquarter of "Resurrecting Our Herbal Medine" Campaign held a conference for the coping of SARS on the 24th of April at the conference room of AKOM. They agreed that SARS is a new form of febrile disease that resembles influenza and it is possible to cure and prevent through Korean Medicine.

At the meeting, it was emphasized that febrile diseases spring from abnormal weathers due to environmental changes, and that it is possible to prevent SARS by attending closely to sanitation and leading a regular lifestyle.

The five parties announced that although Lonicerae Flos and other herbs included in the prescriptions recommended by Beijing Academy of Chinese Medicine and China Research Center of Traditional Medicine are currently running out of stock, domestic herbs like Houttuyniae Herba, Scrophulariae Radix and Arctii Semen can be alternatives.

The five parties also recommended drinking herbal tea of Forsythiae Fructus, Mentae Herba, Arctii Semen, Scrophulariae Radix and Houttuyniae Herba to raise immunity.

The Korean Oriental Medical Society plans to dispatch a band of researchers to Beijing as they agrees on joint research between the KOMS and Beijing Academy of Chinese Medicine, China Research Center of Traditional Medicine.

The conference was attended by Dean Ahn, Kyu Seok of Kyunghee University's College of Oriental Medicine, Choi, Do Yang and Kim, Dong Chae of AKOM, President Park, Dong Seok and Kim, Jung Ho of KOMS, Kim, Yong Ho of National Medical Center, Park, Seok Jun head of Oriental Medicine and Science Research Center and Kim, Ju Young of the Headquarter of "Resurrecting Our Herbal Medine" Campaign.
